Ryan O’Connor is a Lead Assessment Specialist in ACTNext’s Assessment Design Department, providing strategic vision for the evaluation of student learning on multiple dimensions. Ryan came to ACT in 2013 to lead the research and development teams working on the “Achievement, Behaviors, and Goals” initiative, which became the ACT Holistic Framework®. Ryan has written extensively, presented frequently, and collaborated widely on a host of projects and programs that extend out this core work that has become central to ACT’s transformation from an assessment company to a learning, measurement and navigation organization.
Ryan holds a PhD in Educational Policy from the University of Iowa and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Florida Atlantic University. Prior to his work in the assessment industry, Ryan taught high school English over the course of 10 years at 3 very different high schools; most recently, Suncoast Community High School in Riviera Beach, which was well-known for successful implementation the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Ryan also has experience teaching in a variety of higher educational settings, including universities and colleges in Iowa, Ireland, S. Korea and Armenia. Ryan lives in Iowa City with his wife, Noga, and their two sons, Ezra and Ronan.
